| Note(s) | 17 Jul 1963, Saigon, Vietnam - South Vietnamese police hustle Buddhist monk into waiting police truck during demonstration here July 17th. The incident occured in front of the Giac Minh pagoda in downtown Saigon. Several hundred police broke up the demonstration by monks and nuns who were protesting alleged anti-Buddhist restrictions by the Ngo Dinh Diem government. Demonstrators carried banners demanding the government carry out a joint agreement aimed at settling the country's 10-week-old political religious strife. (U1387560) |
